Meet Adrian Cortes

Adrian Cortes is a father, public school teacher, and Battle Ground City Councilmember. His family moved to Battle Ground when he was six years old and has happily called it home ever since. Adrian grew up in a traditional household where his father worked and his mother stayed home to raise their children: two sons and two daughters.

His family worked hard, they had a garden that helped feed the family and when summer came around, Adrian worked as a berrypicker to save up for school supplies. Adrian knows that here  in Clark County you can get ahead if you do the work and commit yourself to making a better life. In 2008, Adrian felt the urge to start giving back to the community that has been such a great home to his family. He joined the Battle Ground Planning Commission and then was elected to Battle Ground City Council, serving as Mayor in 2020 and 2021. Committed to responsible leadership, Adrian cut utility taxes - saving rate-payers over $1.5 million dollars, passed a fiscally responsible budget and made critical investments in public safety, roads and eliminating the city debt.

Adrian Cortes is a second career teacher. Adrian went back to college as an adult to become a teacher. He ended up completing five degrees, including a doctorate while being a working father raising two daughters. Adrian understands that it’s never too late to change gears in life and work hard for your passions. He lives in Battle Ground and has two daughters.
