Adrian is currently serving his second term on Battle Ground City Council and his first term as Mayor. He is also on the C-TRAN Board of Directors. While serving on City Council, Cortes has championed policies that have kept Battle Ground the most affordable community in our region. He’s supported reducing city debt and is committed to a pay-as-you-go approach.
“The people that I serve, they have faces, families, hopes, dreams and personal stories to tell. And they are my fellow community members and Americans. And by virtue of that bond alone, they are worthy of my sacrifice, commitment and of my service to them.
Why I am running is simple; we are in uncertain times and we need proven leadership. Many in our community are hurting due to the COVID health pandemic restrictions and economic devastation. As Mayor, I was out in front fighting for our business community; especially our small businesses. If re-elected, I will continue to fight against unreasonable state mandates that impact our quality of life”.
During my current (first) term as Mayor, I signed an ordinance that cut utility taxes; we made these tax cuts permanent in 2021 saving rate payers over $1.5 million dollars. We passed a fiscally responsible budget. Not only did the budget reduce taxes, it made critical investments in public safety, roads and eliminated city debt.
Rather than defunding our police we invested in additional street patrols, detective work, K-9 program and an additional School Resource Officer. The budget dedicated over $1.2 million more towards our city road repairs. The budget also reduced city property taxes (from $1.35 per $1,000 to $1.29). Lastly, our budget eliminated debt by paying off our city hall and community center early. No other city in our region has come close to the fiscal stewardship our city has accomplished”.
